City Vaccination Program against HPV

City Vaccination Program against HPV

For many years, SZPZLO has been participating in the Warsaw Health Policy Program for the prevention of infections caused by the human papillomavirus, called "HPV 12". The program is fully funded by the city budget. The first stage of the program was implemented in 2019-2021. Currently, the second stage of the program is being carried out, which started in January 2022 and will last until December 2024. Warsaw has allocated more than 13 million zlotys for this purpose (over 4.4 million zlotys for each year of the current stage). The program is intended for girls and boys aged 12 (after turning 12 and before turning 13 - one age group). The child's age applies to the administration of the first dose of the vaccine - the second dose can be administered after the age of 13. Since the beginning of the first stage of the city program, that is, from 2019 to the end of 2022, more than 20,600 vaccinations against HPV have been carried out for teenagers over 12 years old, of which over 7,400 vaccinations were carried out last year.
According to the decision of the Warsaw City Council, the goal of the program is to increase resistance to HPV infections in the target population at a level of at least 40% of girls and boys aged 12 (6000 out of 15200 people annually). Girls and boys aged 12 (after turning 12 and before turning 13) living in Warsaw can use the HPV vaccination program. The vaccination schedule consists of two doses of the vaccine, administered at a 6-month interval – both doses are funded within the program. The teenager's age applies to the first dose of the vaccine – the second dose can be administered after the age of 13.
Within the HPV prevention program, the city covers the cost of vaccination with both doses - the market price of one dose ranges between 450 and 750 zlotys.
Before vaccination, a doctor's consultation (medical history and examination) is required to exclude contraindications. Medical examination is not carried out within the program and is not funded by the Warsaw city budget, but it can be performed, for example, by a primary health care physician (family doctor).
